State to deaccession items from Drake Well Museum

Some odd items from the Drake Well Museum collection will be sold by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

The commission is deaccessioning items from the collections of several museums statewide, including Drake Well Museum, which focuses on the 19th century petroleum industry in western Pennsylvania.

Items for sale include an 1863 Lloyd’s map of the lower Mississippi River, a pipe wrench, a bull rope swivel and 10 duplicate issues of a 1944 publication called the Orange Disc.

Also up for sale is a photograph of a man pouring nitroglycerine.
