NEWS from ARCS – August 24, 2014

August 24, 2014 | ARCS News

The ARCS Board has recently accepted the resignations of Gabriela Truly, Kristi Alexander and Devon Pyle-Vowles, each of whom has new and demanding responsibilities in their professional lives.   On behalf of the Board and the entire membership we want to acknowledge them and thank them for their remarkable contributions to the first few years of ARCS.

Under Gabriela Truly’s leadership we launched our new organization, conducted a successful Founding Benefactor campaign, and produced our inaugural conference in Chicago. We would not be ARCS without our founding President.

Kristi Alexander, as chair of the Governance Committee, filed the incorporation papers for ARCS, wrote our by-laws, and drafted the operations manual for ARCS.

Devon Pyle-Vowles served as chair of the Conference Planning Committee, produced the successful Inaugural Conference in Chicago, and, through her efforts on several other committees, played a key role in establishing our new organization.

These three founding board members leave big shoes to fill but as sad as we are to see these three leave the ARCS Board, we are very pleased to welcome three new Board members who have demonstrated their interest in ARCS and contributed to our profession, each in his or her own way.

L. Lynne Addison, Registrar at the Yale University Museum; Mark Schlemmer, Assistant Registrar for Collections at the Guggenheim Museum; and Cherie Summers, Chief Registrar, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, recently retired, have been appointed to complete the terms of the three departing board members.

We are very pleased to have them join us as we sail on.  Please read their profiles on the website!

In addition, at the annual board meeting in June of this year, we voted to expand the board to 15 members. The Nominating Committee will soon seek recommendations from our membership for nominations to the three new board positions. More on that soon.

In the coming weeks, the board will also elect new officers for the 2014 – 2016 term.  We will keep the membership up to date as this election takes place.

In addition, you will soon hear more about our new Advisory Council that has been in development since the fall of last year.  We are very, very pleased at the positive response we have had from the invitees and are sure that all members will benefit from their special expertise and assistance.

Finally, a programming note:  Please save the dates November 6-7, 2014, and watch for forthcoming details about a workshop, entitled “Crating & Packing Dynamics – Current Standards and Future Trends,” which will be held at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA organized by ARCS and the leaders of PACCIN.  Registration for this workshop is  available online at arcsinfo.org/programs
