About

As Senior Curator (formerly Regional Curator) for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Bureau of Historic Sites and Museums, Susan Hanna works with a variety of collections (and people) at small museums across Pennsylvania.  In her 35 years of museum work, she has been a Museum Educator, Registrar and Collections Manager.

A board member of ICOM’s International Committee for Regional Museums (ICR) since 2004, Sue has had the pleasure of visiting regional museums around the world and speaking to students in Greece and Brazil about the reality of museum work.  She co-edited Regional Museums and the Post-Industrial Age (2008 ICR Conference, Pittsburgh, PA), Murska Sobota Regional Museum, Slovenia, 2012.  In 2007, as Co-chair of the Collections Stewardship Team for the AASLH StEPs program, Sue worked with a dream team of museum professionals from across the U.S. to develop achievable collections standards for small to mid-sized museums.  From 1988-1991, she served as Chair of the AAM Registrars Committee's Professional Practices Subcommittee which developed a "Statement of Practice for Borrowing and Lending" published in Registrar, Fall 1991.  Sue has served as a MAP reviewer, IMLS grant reviewer and panelist and spoken at various conferences and symposia.  She holds a Master's Degree in American Civilization (Material Culture) from the University of Pennsylvania.
