The Getty Museum has a reason to celebrate. It's a major purchase - the acquisition of 39 Dutch drawings.
Stephanie Schrader, curator of drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum, says "this is a pretty large acquisition for the Getty. Thirty-nine drawings is the largest number my department has ever acquired in one fell swoop. We are always looking at ways to build our very small collection so adding 39 drawings increases the collection of Dutch drawings by a third. Rembrandt is one of the stellar names in the line-up."
She says the planned purchase was set in motion two years ago but wasn't finalized until January.
Along with Rembrandt, the collection includes drawings by many other artists of the "Golden Age" of Dutch art.
The museum is currently closed because of the pandemic but Schrader says she looks forward to everyone seeing the collection when the Getty reopens sometime next year.
