DESCRIPTION:This two-day workshop will prepare attendees to successfully w
 ork as a contract courier during any stage of the loan process and to fol
 low good courier practices. From accompanying an object during travel and
  navigating cargo flights\, to building trust with clients and problem-so
 lving crate modifications\, this workshop covers it all.  Adapted for a U
 S audience\, the training combines content from the Courier Training Prog
 ram Framework\, developed by multiple European registrars’ groups\, and b
 ookend courier training facilitated in partnership with the Foundation fo
 r Advancement in Conservation (FAIC). \nThis workshop includes informatio
 n targeted towards those working as independent contractors\, and is suit
 able for any collections care or allied professionals who may serve as co
 uriers. The curriculum provides attendees with a comprehensive manual tha
 t includes training presentations\, project management worksheets\, and c
 hecklists appropriate for both early career and more experienced cultural
  heritage professionals across a range of specialties.\nTraining will inc
 lude conceptual and practical components\, leading participants through a
  combination of a taught syllabus\, tabletop exercises\, group discussion
 \, hands-on activities\, Q&A sessions\, and a bibliography of online reso
 urces and take-home worksheets.\nDay One: April 16\, 2026\n\nTime: 8:30am

 nd City\, NY 11101\n\n\nOn Day One\, participants will be at Maquette’s L
 ong Island City flagship facility\, which is an active fine art warehouse
  with full-climate open storage\, private viewing rooms\, a CCSF-certifie
 d cargo screening facility\, and a crate shop. Participants will learn th
 e couriering process from start to finish\, which will include informatio
 n on: \n\nThe responsibilities of working as a contract courier\nBest pra
 ctices and responsibilities for travel with a loan\nOn-site expectations 
 of the borrower and lender for packing/unpacking and installation/de-inst
 allation\nHow to establish trust with the lender\nConsiderations for dete
 rmining courier fees\nDetermining what services to offer\nThe tools and e
 quipment needed as a courier\nQuestions to ask the lender and borrower\nC
 ourier-specific contract and insurance needs\nHow to market courier servi
 ces\n\n\nDay Two: April 17\, 2026\n\nTime: 8:30am-4:30pm\nLocation: Boxar
 t\, Inc. 79 N 5th St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11249 \n\n\nOn Day Two\, participant
 s will meet at Boxart’s Williamsburg\, Brooklyn facility\, which houses a
 rt storage\, warehouses\, trucks\, a full wood shop\, viewing rooms\, and
  a dedicated packing and preparation shop. The day will provide a thoroug
 h overview of: \n\nIndustry Standards: Learn best practices for packing f
 ine art\, including crate types\, their functions\, and when to use them\
 nMaterials & Methods: Explore commonly used components\, materials\, and 
 construction methods that support safe transport\nHands-On Object Handlin
 g: Work directly with real examples such as travel frames\, sculpture tra
 ys\, foams\, woods\, boards\, and wrapping materials\nEquipment Demonstra
 tions: See fine art shipping tools in action\, including J-bars\, dollies
 \, forklifts\, and pallet jacks\nCrate Loading & Securement: Observe and 
 discuss how artworks and crates are safely loaded and stabilized for tran
 sport\nCompliance & Regulations: Review TSA requirements and other key co
 mpliance standards essential to fine art shipping and logistics\n\n\n\nCo
