Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA)

The Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS) Board of Directors are dedicated to cultivating an environment of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) within the cultural heritage and collecting/non-collecting institutional communities. As members of ARCS, we recognize the importance of reflecting the diverse perspectives and experiences of the communities we serve.

Our goal is to be an organization that inspires and supports current and future museum professionals to advance collections, and institutions to be inclusive, reflective, and respectful of diverse cultures and histories.

Our commitment is to empower ARCS members through diverse and accessible educational resources that inspire and support current and future collections professionals. We are invested in expanding our members' capacity to advance collections care that is inclusive and respectful of diverse cultural history.

The Board received training focused on IDEA for non-profit organizations and museums. In the next 12 months, ARCS will support IDEA training for current ARCS committee members. Board and committee members will regularly review our policies for integrating IDEA topics into the programs, classes, events, and conferences. ARCS will continue to create spaces for small group IDEA conversations, both in-person and virtual.

The Board of Directors hears the members and acknowledges that our work is never done. We ask our members to hold us accountable and remind us where improvements can be made.
