Upcoming Webinars

Alternative Courier Practices Webinar

The Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) and the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS) presents the upcoming online workshop “Alternative Courier Practices” taking place on April 24 and 26, 2023, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The workshop will be led by Lauren Fly, Ana Muñoz, and Samantha Springer.

As collecting institutions adopt alternative courier practices, best practice guidelines, tools, and strategies continue to evolve. Virtual couriering is an entirely remote method of overseeing an object's travel and handling that relies on digital technologies, such as location trackers and video streaming software, to monitor movement, environmental factors, packing/unpacking, condition reporting, and installation/deinstallation. Bookend couriering is a hybrid model in which an independent third-party acts as a courier at either end of the lending or borrowing process to provide in-person oversight.

Led by both registrars and conservators, this workshop is intended for any collections care professional whose work involves organizing loans and exhibitions or acting as a courier. The two sessions will explore the logistics and methods implemented by professionals in the field, discuss considerations taken into account in choosing appropriate options, and share tips and tricks for successful couriering projects. Workshop participants will take part in discussions and Q&A sessions that will deepen their working knowledge of both alternatives, allowing them to make fully informed decisions of how and when to implement alternative practices.

The live sessions for the workshop will take place in Zoom and automated captions will be available. All live sessions will be recorded and accessible to participants shortly after the session is complete.

Fee
The registration fee is $69 for AIC and ARCS members and $89 for non-members. To receive the member rate, ARCS members should contact info@arcsinfo.org for more information.

Vibratory Impacts of Music and Transport on Museum Collections Webinar Series

Protecting museum collections from vibrations due to building construction and refurbishment is a recognized concern. More recently, museums and cultural heritage organizations around the world have been taking note of the potential impacts that vibrations from music can have on their collections, and new questions are being raised about vibrations during transport.

The findings of a research questionnaire into these topics, Vibratory Impacts of Music and Transport on Museum Collections, were recently released. Over 150 respondents from 138 institutions around the world participated by providing detailed information about their current practices and experiences with vibrations of their collections during musical events and transport of objects.

In this complimentary 90-minute webinar in partnership with ARCS and AIC, the research group behind the questionnaire will present findings from the report and provide a forum for your questions and discussion.

This program will be presented twice: first on April 18 and again on April 25. Both programs will begin at 2:00 P.M. GMT/10:00 A.M. EDT.

Fundraising Committee (Seeking - 2 Members) The Fundraising Subcommittee works closely with the ARCS Board of Directors and all of the various ARCS committees and subcommittees to identify, cultivate, and manage external funding partners. The Fundraising Committee’s goal is to nurture and expand awareness for ARCS initiatives, and to help raise funding to host them. The committee also works closely with other committees to plan specific fundraising events and activities such as the annual ARCS conferences and ARCS webinars and workshops.

Global Connections Committee (Seeking - 2 Members) The Global Connections Committee strives to make ARCS an international organization that meets the needs of its international members and partners and to attract new international emerging professionals to ARCS. They work with other committees to make recommendations for programming, resources, and content designed for international members, and to create internationally-minded conference programming

Member Development Committee (Seeking - 1 Chair, 3 Members) The Membership Development Subcommittee identifies membership needs and develops strategies for increasing and strengthening ARCS membership. They work to attract new members of all categories, including museum studies students and emerging professionals, specifically from North, Central, and South America. Additionally, they work to keep continuing to provide value to existing ARCS members in the best way possible.

Partnerships Committee (Seeking - 2 Members) A collaborative and engaged collections community is a stronger community, and the Partnership Committee seeks to strengthen that through long-standing relationships with other organizations. They create tools for establishing those partnerships, reviewing partnership requests, making recommendations to the Board on existing and future partnerships, and maintaining and reviewing current partnerships.
