The BMW Museum has unveiled a landmark exhibition titled “Driven by Art, Defined by Performance”, celebrating both the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Car Collection and the half-century legacy of the iconic BMW 3 Series. Running through December 2025, the special showcase offers a rare glimpse into the fusion of automotive design and contemporary art.

Since 1975, the BMW Art Car series has invited world-renowned artists to transform race cars into moving masterpieces. The museum exhibition features all 20 official BMW Art Cars—created by legendary artists like:

  • Andy Warhol
  • Roy Lichtenstein
  • David Hockney
  • Jeff Koons
  • Cao Fei
  • Esther Mahlangu
  • Julie Mehretu (whose Art Car debuted at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans)

Each vehicle is presented alongside sketches, artist statements, and multimedia installations detailing the creative journey behind each car.

  • Design evolution over seven generations
  • Motorsport milestones, including touring car victories
  • Cultural impact, from film cameos to everyday driving legend
  • Interactive displays and driving simulators for enthusiasts
