Summer Internship Stipend Recipients

We are pleased to announce the Summer 2023 Internship Stipend recipients. These students show a remarkable interest in their respective fields and ARCS is proud to offer this support as they pursue internships in collections management and registration.

Laura Rodriguez Gomez has an academic background in history, humanities, and sociology at Mount Royal University and recently received a graduate certificate focused on Museum and Cultural Management from Centennial College. She had the amazing opportunity to complete her internship at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Her internship has allowed her to assist the registration team with incoming and outgoing loans, acquisitions, object handling, exhibition management and installation, amongst other tasks.

Currently a graduate student in the Museum Studies program at Syracuse University, Shivam Pawar is working as a Collections and Registration Intern at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia this summer. He credits his professors in the Museum Studies program at Syracuse University who helped him cultivate an interest in collections, registration, archives, and other important aspects of museums. In addition to his internship at the Barnes Foundation, Shivam has been working as an Archives Intern at The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum).

Shauna Matthews is an emerging museum professional and recent graduate of the Applied Museum Studies Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada. Shauna will be completing an internship at the Winnipeg Art Gallery with a focus on collections management and the storage and care of photographic and media works collections. Her internship at the Winnipeg Art Gallery has been an exciting learning experience which has reinforced her desire to pursue a career in registration and collections management.

Congratulations to Laura, Shivam, and Shauna! We wish them great success and look forward to hearing about their experiences at the conclusion of their internships.

If you are interested in future stipend opportunities, please follow ARCS updates for the upcoming announcement of the 2023 ARCS Fall Internship Stipend application period. Interested applicants should already be accepted into an unpaid or low-paid internship program.

Volunteer and become a member of an ARCS Committee!

Are you looking to get involved, expand your professional network, and help ARCS put on incredible programs, conferences, or help with other initiatives that benefit our members? Here are the current open volunteer positions with ARCS:

The current available positions are:

  • Fundraising Committee (Seeking - 2 Members) The Fundraising Subcommittee, serving under the Finance Committee, is seeking enthusiastic and creative ARCS members to volunteer with us to develop and implement a plan to increase non-dues revenue. We meet virtually on the last Wednesday of each month to discuss strategies for cultivating new sponsors, building stronger connections to our current supporters, and to assist with funding for ARCS activities and programming. A person with skills in graphic design and copy editing would benefit our subcommittee. We want more diversity and a variety of perspectives to be included in our efforts.
  • Mentorship Committee (Seeking - 3 Members) The Mentorship Program Subcommittee monitors and implements the joint ARCS and AAM’s Collections Stewardship Professional Network mentorship program. They oversee recruitment and matching of mentors and mentees, and identify creative ways to promote the program and ways to expand mentoring access and events. If you want to help make a major impact on the collections field, and help guide emerging museum professionals through their early career path, then this committee is for you!
